OMEGA RENK Bearings Pvt. Ltd. and RENK AG, Hanover organize Customer Summit 2018

Bhopal, February 5-6, 2018

The OMEGA RENK Customer Summit 2018 was a celebration of the success major power companies had with their customers who deployed RENK bearings for their mission critical projects worldwide. Hosted at the OMEGA RENK Net-Zero Energy Building (India's first LEED Platinum commercial NZEB), the event saw participants from various business functions of global power project majors.

Senior executives from RENK AG, Hanover, led by Mr. Marcus Trautmann, General Manager
(Sales & Engineering), discussed in detail the 150 year old legacy of RENK bearings, the current offerings in Horizontal Bearings and Vertical Bearings, and the future developments in bearing technology being pioneered by RENK. Participants learnt about RENK bearings standards being the precursor and the foundation for the universally accepted DIN Standards. The enthusiastic discussions, over the next two days, saw them gain a better understanding of the technical attributes of RENK Bearings, the selection criteria for respective bearings and the comparative superiority of RENK Bearings for deployment in critical power projects.

Mr. Sushil Prakash, Managing Director, OMEGA RENK Bearings Pvt. Ltd., introduced the concepts of Industry 4.0 in the context of industrial manufacturing, and shared details of the advanced state of preparedness of OMEGA RENK to adopt Industry 4.0. The highlight of the day was the tour of the state of art manufacturing facility of OMEGA RENK.

The technical sessions were rounded off with an exposition on the product and process quality endeavors at OMEGA RENK. The Open House, that followed, saw an animated discussion amongst participants on how to further enhance the quality of engagement between the power majors and RENK and OMEGA RENK. The event ended on a convivial note on the lush green lawns of the OMEGA RENK factory.

An engaging guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sanchi brought down the curtains on an eventful Customer Summit 2018. Commissioned in the 3rd century BC by Emperor Ashoka, Sanchi is the seat of the oldest Buddhist sanctuary in existence and comprises, in addition to the Great Stupa and the Ashoka Pillar, a group of Buddhist pillars, palaces, temples and monasteries, all in different states of conservation.

In its second year now, Hriday Drishyam is very popular among the music lovers of Bhopal city. The string of performances held at famous heritage sites of the city serves as a constant reminder towards our duty to protect and preserve our heritage, art and culture. It also gives an opportunity to the people of Bhopal to witness these monumental sites in their utmost glory.

This year’s line-up included the likes of GRAMMY award winner Padma Shri Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt, the famous young brothers’ duo Amaan and Ayaan Ali accompanied by their father, the much decorated Sarod veteran Amjad Ali Khan. Local band, The Purple Studio was also given the opportunity to perform on the big stage to showcase their talents. A total of eight performances over the period of 2 days is a treat for the city and acts as a catalyst in promoting and developing local and national artists in the field of traditional arts.

Omega Renk Bearings presents its NZEB project at the European Network for Housing Research

EDINBURGH / BHOPAL – July 10, 2014 – Omega Renk Bearings was invited to present its paper “Net-Zero Energy Buildings in developing countries – a case study” at the 26th conference of the European Network for Housing Research. The theme of the conference was Beyond Globalization : remaking housing policy in a complex world, and Omega Renk Bearings discussed its project in the Workshop on Energy Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability of Housing.

Omega Renk Bearings, as part of its sustainability initiative, conceptualized, built and commissioned India’s first commercial Net-Zero Energy Building (SOPL-NZEB). The renewable energy system discussed in this paper is an empirical model of decentralized off-grid solar installations that are ideal for deployment in developing countries, to solve the energy crisis for habitations with no access to the grid

Universal access to energy is a key determinant to the human development. Energy poverty of a significantly large number of citizens seriously impairs their ability to contribute to the welfare of their community and improve their quality of life. Guided by UN’s goal of Universal Energy Access by 2030, considerable policy work is being undertaken, worldwide, to improve the policy environment, to support the poor; boost capacity to deliver more and better quality energy technologies; and ramp up the volume and types of energy financing support access.

However, much can be achieved through micro-interventions by the enlightened and committed, within the current policy framework, as demonstrated in this paper. The ease of installation, commissioning and maintenance, as well as design life of 25 years of such projects make this a very attractive solution to ensure energy security, while protecting the environment.

The NZEB project is complemented by Omega Renk Bearings’ project ORBIS (Omega Renk Bearings Initiative for Solar). ORBIS is a significant step towards realizing the ‘100% Renewable Energy Vision by 2050’. It seeks to impact the large segment of the energy-intensive manufacturing industry, which accounts for about one third of total energy use worldwide, where penetration of renewable energy has been insignificant. Project ORBIS generates a massive 82.4% of the total electricity consumption of the manufacturing plants and administrative offices of Omega Renk Bearings. The ORBIS initiative proves the feasibility of reliably sourcing a manufacturing plant’s large scale energy requirements through solar energy.

World’s ‘greenest’ manufacturing plant

BHOPAL – July 22, 2013 – Omega RENK Bearings Pvt. Ltd., with its solar photovoltaic plant that generates a massive 82% of its total energy requirements, became one of the world’s ‘greenest’ manufacturing plant. Situated in the city of Bhopal in central India, Omega RENK Bearings, a premier manufacturer of slide bearings, set the bar high, and is well on its way to becoming the first manufacturing plant to be powered 100% by solar energy.

The project ORBIS – Omega RENK Bearings Initiative for Solar, is a 1.455 MWp solar PV plant built in three phases. The highly efficient SunCarrier 260 sun-tracking systems used in the project generate about 40% more electricity than similarly rated fixed installations. ORBIS generates 2.8 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year, as against the overall requirement of 3.4 gigawatt-hours of electricity of the Omega RENK Bearings, for its Manufacturing Plants and Administrative offices (including lighting load, air-conditioning, and plant & equipment load).

Manufacturing industry accounts for about one third of total energy use worldwide. The Omega RENK Bearings Initiative for Solar (ORBIS) seeks to impact this large segment of energy-intensive industry where penetration of renewable energy has been insignificant. To ensure greater adoption, policy initiatives in renewable energy have to be supplemented by robust, proven references of successful adoption of renewable energy in the industrial sector. ORBIS is a leading example of such large-scale industrial deployment of solar energy.

The ORBIS initiative proves the feasibility of reliably sourcing a manufacturing plant’s large scale energy requirements through solar energy. It supplements the grid (India currently has a 25% deficit in generation capacity) without depleting scarce fossil fuels, eliminates millions of tonnes of GHG emissions, and provides long-term energy security. Easy to design, configure, the ORBIS solar farm can be built and commissioned rapidly. Its state-of-art remote monitoring and security features, and minimal maintenance requirement makes it very easy to operate. ORBIS provides industry an empirical model of an eco-responsible energy policy, and an enhanced quality of life for its stakeholders.
